Bylakuppe 20 Mar: Lugsam Co-operative Society commemorated its 50 years of establishment at co-operative’s community hall today at 9 am. The anniversary function was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Ven. Tsering Phuntsok, former Religion & Culture Minister, CTA, Lugsam & TDL Settlement Officers and FTCI CEO.
FTCI BoDs, former BoDs of Lugsam co-operative, BoDs and Secretary of TDL co-operative, camp leaders and representatives of various NGOs and monasteries were also there at the function. After the lighting of butter lamp by the Chief Guest and Special Guests, traditional sweet rice and Tibetan tea were served. A-minute long silence was also observed to express solidarity for Tibetan martyrs who self-immolated for the cause of Tibet.
While acknowledging contribution of co-operative towards restoration of freedom of Tibet, Ven Tsering Phuntsok in his speech said that co-operative activities greatly benefit in addressing the problems of individual and community as a whole as ideas of co-operative’s share members are pooled in managing co-operative activities as per the objectives of co-operative. He further emphasised that to achieve improvement in co-operative functioning, Tibetan youth must be given opportunity to take more active role and responsibilities in co-operative management. The Chief Guest praised the progress made by Lugsam co-operative and the trust and confidence it has earned from its share members and underlined that co-operative must analyse on why disinvestment of DOF business units took place.
Lugsam Co-operative Chairman Mr Pema Delek (who is also FTCI Chairman) mentioned in his address that today is day to recall achievement of Lugsam co-operative in past 50 years. He further underlined that share members should take more active participation and role in the society for the growth and further improvement.
The function also saw presentations of memento to all the guests, camp leaders and former Chairman, BoDs and Secretaries of the society.
Lugsam co-operative society, Bylakuppe was legally registered on 20th March 1964. The society business units include maize trading, consumer store, tractor & workshop, petrol pump, handicraft section, community hall and so on. Currently there are 3,171 share members in the society.
