Delhi 5 Dec: Federation of Tibetan Co-operatives in India Ltd has been awarded with International Award for best Co-operative Society at the International Conference on Co-operatives held in Delhi on Dec 5 & 6, 2012. The conference was jointly organized by World Peace Development and Research Foundation, The International Cooperative Alliance, National Cooperative Union of India, and United Nation International Co-operative Year. Mr. Tashi Wangdu, CEO of FTCI received the award and gave presentation on Tibetan Co-operative movement on the day two of the conference.
More than 100 delegates were present in the conference from 16 countries along with co-operative giants of Indian Co-operative movement. The Inaugural function was presided over by Shri Bal Ram Jakhar, former Speaker of Indian Parliament and former Agriculture Minister of Government of India with other dignitaries like Dr. Daman Prakash, former director of International Co-operative Alliance, Dr. Dinesh, Chief Executive of National Co-operative Union of India, Shri Shivaji Rao Giridhar Patil, Senior Director of NCUI and member of Rajya Sabha and Prof Sandeep Marwah, President of WPDRF.
While Indian Co-operatives celebrate 100 years, Tibetans also celebrate 50 years in co-operative movement. Among the 2 million co-operative societies with over one billion members in the world, India has 22 National Federations, 648 State Federations, 522 Muti-State Co-operatives and 600,000 Co-operative societies with over 300 million members.
FTCI has 15 member co-operatives in India with over 24,000 shareholders. Tibetan Co-operatives in India operate 150 units from Hotels to Handicrafts, Trading to Tractor sections, Incenses to Internet café, Fair price shops to Shopping complexes.
To name few, Amul, IFFO and KRIBHCO are some of the successful co-operative societies in India.
