FTCI participate in Tibetan Agriculture Conference

Bylakuppe Nov 9: FTCI Chairman and CEO attended the 8th Tibetan Agriculture Settlement’s meeting held in Tibetan Organic Research and Training Center in Bylakuppe from Nov 6 to 8, 2011.

Conference was chaired by Kalon Gyari Dolma of Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration and Chithue Lobsang Nyandak presided as Chief Guest and Chintue Jigmey Jugney as Special Guest. CTA’s policy of organic farming in Tibetan settlement is the main focus of the meeting.  Participants discussed in detail about the achievements and problems faced since the introduction of organic farming in Tibetan Settlement 6 years ago and also about how to go forward.

FTCI is the main marketer of Tibetan Organic. 70% of the organic produce in Tibetan settlement is being marketed through FTCI and its member co-operatives and 10% through local market while 20% is being consume by farmers.

Participants also discussed about need of irrigation and plantation for the sustainability of Tibetan Settlements.

There are12 Tibetan Settlements introduced organic farming among 18 agriculture settlements in India. All the settlements with organic farming has Agricultural Extension Officer to guide and train organic farmer. Tibetan organic is certified by IMO.
