Mainpat 25 Feb: CEO Mr Tashi Wangdu inaugurated 1000 liter per hour UV & RO System Water Treatment Plant and Community Kitchen of Mainpat Tibetan Cooperative Society as Chief Guest on 24 Feb 2014 morning. The opening ceremony was attended by Settlement Officer Kalden, Chithue Jigmey Jungney, Local Tibetan Assembly Chairman, Tibetan Cooperative Chairman and Secretary among other dignitaries.
The inaugural ceremony started with consecration by Lama Nyima of Nyingma Monastery subsequently followed by ribbon cutting by Mr. Tashi. Tibetan Cooperative’s Secretary Kalsang Gyatso then welcomed all the dignitaries and briefed about the project and its sponsors.
Community Kitchen was sponsored by Amav Phuntsok Dolma, Apactpau France and Water Treatment Plant was sponsored by Woser Association of Itlay through Tibetan Refugee Charity Foundation, India.
Tibetan Cooperatives have been serving their members through different activities in the field of economy, employment, education, health and culture.
The source of drinking water in Tibetan Settlements is underground borewell water. Many chemicals have been discovered in borewell water and in certain cases bacteria that causes more than 30 different diseases. Hence, installation of UV and RO system water treatment plants by Tibetan Cooperatives is proved to be helpful. Co-operative sell drinking water at reasonable rate.
Later Mr. Tashi met Board of Directors and staff members of Mainpat Tibetan Refugee Cooperative Society for half day and discussed about ways and means to improve and develop the society.
On morning of 25 Feb, Mr. Tashi spoke to the assembled cooperative share members. In his speech Mr. Tashi said, “Sustainability of Tibetan settlement significantly depends on success of cooperative and success of cooperative depends on member’s participation. Hence, members should cooperate and participate in cooperative activities and avail maximum benefit.” He also spoke about FTCI, its activities and Tibetan cooperatives movement and its development.
Mainpat Tibetan settlement in Chattisgarh state was established in 1962 to rehabilitate 1,400 Tibetan refugees and subsequently registered a cooperative society. The settlement has seven camps and four monasteries.
